Diploma in Missional Studies

At Allsouls School of Mission (ASM) our students undertake compulsory and elective taught units, and practical, all of which adequately prepares them for diverse missional engagements at completion.

Course Curriculum

Discipleship & Spiritual Formation: This unit is about becoming like Jesus, being Christ-like in all that we do as expected by God and exemplified in Christ. It relates the nature of Christ that His followers are expected to emulate and the development practical Christian holy living thereby portraying true Christian spirituality. Key factors contributing to success or failure in Christian living are adequately articulated.


The Gospel & Introduction to Missions: In this unit, the basis of missions, why missions and the difference between evangelism and missions, and what makes missions imperative are taught. Students are introduced to the essence of missions and how missions are conducted. Why is mission less emphasized and how to avoid it. Other aspects of missions and mission agencies.


Evangelism: Emphasis is on biblical basis of evangelism and importance of personal witnessing. The criticality of the Great Commission and the importance of evangelism to church growth. Effective evangelism & evangelism amongst people of other faiths. Evangelism and Church revival and caring for new converts and discipleship. Is Cross-Cultural Mission still relevant for effective evangelism?


Church History: History and growth of the church and spread of the gospel through missions. This unit enables students to understand key movements, events, and individuals that shaped Christian missions and church growth up to current state. Learn to leverage entrepreneurship and marketplace strategies for kingdom impact.


Homiletics: This unit is about Christian preaching that emphasise auction, internalization and use of Biblical, theological and homiletical considerations in sermon preparation and sermon delivery that communicates the gospel for the purposes of personal salvation and reconciliation of souls of men unto God their maker through Jesus the redeemer and the rededication of souls of backsliders to the Lord as the central themes.


Christian Apologetics & Polemics of Religions:: The Bible: its inspiration, authenticity, and authority; God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Defence of Christianity from historical, archaeological, philosophical, scientific perspectives, and creationism versus the theory of evolution. Deliberation of other religions’ claims and their fallacies.


Global Mission Imperatives: In this unit we expose the state of Christianity & Missional needs, with emphasis on current state of Christianity in different part of the world, the challenges of missionary initiatives and Christianity in below regions. Analysis of Pew Research and Open Doors Annual Report.

Business As Mission: Business that are owned and run by Christians need to be more inclined to propagation of the gospel through the instrumentality of the business such that Christian entrepreneurs will see themselves as running their businesses as a missionary engagement for the expansion of the gospel amongst their staff members and within the communities they operate.


Other Religions & Gospel Communication: Evangelism in multifaith communities can sometimes be challenging. We teach our students about other religions, their tenet and claims and the culture of these religions and how best to effectively communicate the gospel to adherents of these religions. We emphasise these other religions, Islam, Bhudism, Sikhism and Judaism.


Pastoral Theology: The missionary as a pastor and what is biblically expected of that role. The conduct and disposition of a missionary pastor, what his/her priorities should be and what to avoid in order to make full proof of his/her ministry. The conduct of small to big sized fellowships and emphasis on members’ welfare and the expression of God’s love to communities as priorities over the pastor’s personal interests.


Languages: One new foreign language selected from, French, Spanish, Russian, and one new local language from Yoruba, Hausa, Igbo and Swahili.


Practical & Field Experience: Every student is expected to actively participate in the practical which will last six weeks and will include local and foreign missionary journeys as well as work placements with mission agencies and mission minded denominational parishes.

Yes. Classes take place only three Saturdays a month to accommodate working professionals.
